CHINA TIME finishes on a high

Oldenburg German-Chinese Friendship Society plays its role

The seventh "CHINA TIME“, a series of events organised by the Hamburg Senat every two years, came to a conclusion on Tuesday 25. September 2018 with a farewell concert in Hamburg’s Hafenmuseum. For three weeks between 1 September – 23 September, over 150 China-themed events were laid on across Hamburg, giving people the opportunity to find out more about the country, culture and people.

The Day of Chinese Culture on September 1, organised by the Oldenburg German-Chinese Friendship Society, was also part of the CHINA TIME series of events.

Our Chairman Dr. John Goodyear and Maybelline Gutsche hosted the farewell concert in German and Chinese. Presenting the evening in a entertaining and informative way, they introduced eight separate music and dance performance, including the song “Molihua”, played by the German-Chinese Orchestra of the Confucius Institute under Mona Li and sang by the German-Chinese Choir of the Confucius Institute Hamburg led by Yuanyuan Voß. Lin Xue mesmorised the audience with her ballet performance of the Butterfly Lovers, a theatre piece by Liang Zhu. Yuanshan World Music Band with students from the Institute for Pop music at the Sichuan Conservatoire amazed the audience with their huge Chinese drum playing and powerful female voice, presenting the song First Frost in a Chinese narrative form called Tanci.

The next CHINA TIME is scheduled to take place in 2020.
